The holistic empowerment of the poor self employed women within the co-operative structure

Trading Co-operatives

In 1973, three major organizations working towards the development of women in Ahmedabad city demanded that Government should give sole preferences to goods from women cooperatives. The initiatives of SEWA like 'SEWA Kalakruti Centre' and 'Shop No. 40' have encouraged and enhanced the income generating abilities of women engaged in trading goods like fish, vegetables etc on streets of the cities.

Currently, the Federation has five member co-operatives in this group which comprise of 760 shareholders in the two areas mentioned below:

  • Fish
  • Vegetables
