Achieving Gender Equality and Women’s Rights through Public Services and Social Protection : A Report by GADN

Achieving Gender Equality and Women’s Rights through Public Services and Social Protection argues that quality, publicly funded services are essential for advancing gender equality and strengthening women’s economic and social rights.

Drawing on research from Brazil, India, and Zambia, the report examines how investments in childcare, healthcare, and social protection can reduce women’s unpaid care burden, expand access to decent work, and improve overall well-being. It contrasts public and private approaches to service provision, highlighting the importance of state responsibility in ensuring equitable and accessible care systems.

The report also features SEWA Cooperative Federation’s Sangini Childcare Cooperative as an example of how community-rooted childcare services can support informal women workers while contributing to broader conversations on care, public investment, and social justice.
