Bridging Working Capital for Women Collective Enterprises | A Policy Brief on WESS

Bridging Working Capital for Women Collective Enterprises examines the persistent financing challenges faced by women-led cooperatives and collective enterprises, particularly in accessing timely and affordable working capital.

Drawing on research by SEWA Cooperative Federation and MicroSave Consulting, as well as insights from government agencies, financial institutions, and civil society organisations, the policy brief highlights the role of “Bridge Institutions” in connecting enterprises to patient capital, financial services, and business support.

It argues that credit alone is insufficient and calls for integrated support systems that combine finance, capacity building, market linkages, and long-term handholding to help women’s collective enterprises grow sustainably and strengthen their economic resilience.
