Strengthening Women’s Cooperatives: The Experience of SEWA Cooperative Federation documents over three decades of SEWA Cooperative Federation’s work in building and strengthening women-owned collective enterprises across India.
Published in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO), the report examines how cooperatives have enabled informal women workers to secure livelihoods, access social protection, strengthen leadership, and participate more effectively in the economy.
Drawing on experiences from sectors including agriculture, handicrafts, finance, childcare, healthcare, insurance, and services, the report highlights the Federation’s approach to enterprise development through capacity building, business support, policy advocacy, and collective action. It offers practical lessons on how women-led cooperatives can create pathways towards economic self-reliance, resilience, and a more inclusive future of work.
